Our COVID-19 Response
In light of the evolving circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we are writing to share the precautionary measures we have taken as a community-based organization to protect the health of our community, staff, and collective client base. Since spring of 2020, the pandemic has introduced much uncertainty into the daily lives of many. However, having served seniors and the East Bay immigrant and refugee community since 1994, we are uniquely positioned to respond to such local emergencies.
In mid-February, VACCEB became an Alameda County Community Resource Navigator to increase vaccination coverage, promote vaccine confidence, and ensure our immigrant client base has access to vaccination. In effect, the majority of our clients and their family members have been fully vaccinated and we have reduced the racial and ethnic health disparity gap. We continue to register clients with the goal of reaching 100% vaccination.
In addition to providing critical resources for our clients, we have taken action to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community. We are monitoring information from public health authorities and following their recommendations. As a result, we have shifted ESL and Citizenship classes online and postponed all upcoming in-person events. Regarding our Mobile Meal Program, we continue to serve in accordance with California State Health and Emergency Official guidance as an essential business.
Like you, our thoughts are with those whose lives have been affected by this pandemic. We are always heartened by the East Bay’s response to crises and are inspired by our community’s resilience. Thank you, and we wish everyone good health always.
